What is a Lip-lift?

It is a surgical method to shorten the distance between the base of the nose and the upper lip for individuals with a long distance between these areas. As a result, the upper lip area is both lifted and reshaped.

Who can it be done for, and who should avoid it?

It can be applied to individuals with a long distance between the base of the nose and the upper lip (philtrum). Aesthetically, the average length of the philtrum is reported to be 11-13 mm in women and 13-15 mm in men. It can be applied to individuals with a philtrum length greater than these values. It is not suitable for individuals with a short philtrum area or those with an active gummy smile.

How is a lip-lift surgery performed?

Lip-lift surgery is performed under local anesthesia. Excess skin is removed from the base of the nose according to pre-operative markings. The remaining philtrum skin is then separated from the lip muscles and lifted upward. The lifted skin area is then joined with the base of the nose. The operation typically takes 30 to 40 minutes.

What are the results like?

After this procedure, the upper lip area becomes thicker, providing a lip filler effect. By shortening the philtrum distance, it contributes to the aesthetic appearance of the lower face. The results of the lip-lift surgery are permanent, and the appearance will only change with aging.

What is the recovery process like?

Since the procedure is performed under anesthesia, hospitalization is not required. In the first 48 hours after the surgery, swelling and a puffy appearance occur. The initial reduction in swelling takes about one week, with shaping continuing for up to three weeks. The final appearance is achieved in about 3 to 5 months.

Will there be a scar?

A line-shaped scar remains at the base of the nose. The scar fades and becomes less noticeable over time. One year after the surgery, it is not detectable by others from a distance of one meter.

Lip-lift or lip filler?

These two methods are different but can be alternatives to each other. A lip-lift surgery not only shortens the philtrum area but also shapes the entire lower face. The results of a lip-lift are permanent, with changes only occurring due to aging.

Lip fillers, on the other hand, only shape the lips and are not a permanent solution.

For individuals who are not suitable candidates for a lip-lift, lip fillers can be used.
